PP2-TAB/4: Four Head Machine with Variable Router Spacing

The Hoffmann PP2-TAB/4 is a routing machine equipped with four carbide router bits, two on each side. This machine is designed to rout slots for two Dovetail Keys in two workpieces simultaneously. The router bits are installed in high-speed gear heads, which are connected to separate motors with toothed drive belts. The supplied 45 degree fence plate, which is guided in a keyway in the machine table, is used to accurately position the material on the table. The location of the dovetail slots for the Hoffmann Keys is adjusted by simply moving this fence plate and by setting the spacing between the key slots.

The distance between the router bit centers can be adjusted by the operator from 1 1/4" - 4" = 32-100mm. The spacing is displayed on a mechanical counter with 1/10mm accuracy.

A hand wheel on the side of the machine is used to set the desired distance, a locking lever locks the adjustment securely in place.

The machine is equipped with a pneumatic foot switch to start the routing process. Upon depressing of the switch, the routing sequence is initiated:

• Pneumatic clamps secures work pieces on machine table
• Router heads advance until the pre-set height position is reached
• Router heads return to base position
• Pneumatic clamps releases work piece

Output is approx. 16 routing strokes per minute, which translates into 4 completely processed rectangular frames. These numbers include material handling, but obviously depend on routing depth, feed speed, material flow and operator performance as well. Flow control valves on the main pneumatic cylinder allow the operator to adjust the upward and downward feed rate independently, depending on the material being processed.

A heavy-duty cast aluminum table provides a large work surface, the steel cabinet has a 4" diameter dust collection port on its backside for dust free operation.

The supplied router bits are solid tungsten carbide, made to exacting specifications. Depending on the routing depth and the material to be routed, the useable cutter life is approx. 10,000 strokes. Every machine is shipped with a tool kit and set-up jig, which allows a router, bit change in only minutes. Diamond cutters are also available.
