PU2-H/VH: Single-head Machine, Horizontal Travel

The Hoffmann PU2-H Dovetail Routing Machine is designed for horizontal routing operations. This heavy-duty machine is used in a variety of applications, from small moulding assembly to large timber processing for sunroom construction, post and beam designs, etc. The extra-heavy motor can rout keyways for W-4 Keys in a production environment without strain.

The machine is equipped with one heavy-duty router motor equipped with a solid carbide router bit. The motor is mounted on a special carriage with linear bearings. These bearings ride on precision ground steel guides assuring perfect alignment and trouble free operation.

The supplied 45 degree fence plate, which is guided in a key way in the machine table, is used to accurately position the material on the table. For butt and panel - to - panel joints, two square stops and a recessed tape scale are used.

The distance between the router bit centers is set at the factory to customer’s specifications, and can range from 1 1/4” – 2 1/2” = 32mm – 65mm.

After placing the work piece on the machine the following routing process is started by depressing the pneumatic foot switch:

• Pneumatic clamps secure material on table
• Router motor is started
• Router motor advances toward the middle of the machine until pre-set position is reached
• Router head returns to home position and is switched off
• Clamps release the processed part

The horizontal routing stroke can be adjusted from 0 - 9 1/2 “, larger strokes are available as option. The distance between the router bit and the machine table can be adjusted by the operator from 0 – 7 “. The maximum work piece thickness is 9 1/2”.

The supplied router bits are solid tungsten carbide, made to exacting specifications. Depending on the routing depth and the material to be routed, the useable cutter life is approx. 10,000 strokes. Every machine is shipped with a tool kit and set-up jig, which allows a router, bit change in only minutes. Diamond cutters are also available

PU2-H Operation:

The automatic machine cycle is started using the foot petal. The work-piece is clamped, the router unit travels to its pre-set depth (horizontal or vertical) and then returns to its home position, and releases the work-piece. The motor starts and then stops automatically, The choice of horizontal or vertical operations is selected by a switch. Position of the fence and routing depth is made manually.
