Model AB920
AB920 Optimizing Sawmill Edger
Designed for Hardwood sawmills, the Paul AB920 Optimizing edger infeed can be fitted with one of Paul’s S-Series edgers with up to 4 moving blades. The infeed system features a unique, moving table positioning system with 2 – axis positioning and automatic skewing capability. The infeed system is designed to process from 14 – 18 boards per minute. The system measures both the wane and geometry of the board with up to 32 triangulation scanners down the length of the infeed. One of the features of the Paul edger infeed is its small footprint which allows it to fit into most existing mills.
The advantages of an optimizing edging system are many. The manual edger operator’s decision can make a sawmill profitable or not. The manual edger operator is given the job of positioning the board in front of the edger, positioning the blades of the edger and then pushing the board into the edger. The operator is basically making a guess at the approximate width of the board and where to position the blades and the board to get the highest value. The optimizing edger increases the yield and value of your lumber because it is precisely measuring the board width, the wane, the geometry and then precisely positioning both the board and the blades based on these measurements. Simply stated the optimizing edger puts the control of the solutions back in the hands of the management and out of the hands of the operator.
Hard Workers
The PAUL S-model edgers are heavy, robust and powerful machines,
designed for extremely heavy duty applications.
Three basic models - S900, S1200 and S1500 - with maximum
opening widths of 906, 1206 and 1506 mm, make it possible to
meet virtually all requirements.
The arrangement of the climbing top feed rollers and fixed
bottom rollers ensures accurate guidance of the material being
cut. The pressure applied by the top rollers is reinforced
hydraulically.
The models in the S series, designed for manual or automatic loading, have a very broad field of application. They are used:
- as resaw machines for cants up to 180 mm thick
- as edgers or rip saws for the processing of boards and planks
- as particularly powerful machines (up to 300 HP) for the sawing of extremely hard timber
- combined with an AB920 automatic infeed system for maximum productivity
Cutting Patterns
S-series machines, equipped with one fixed and up to four movable saw bushes, offer the utmost flexibility in everyday work.
Depending on the application concerned, one or several movable saw bushes are needed.
Saw bush positioning
Paul offers three different systems for positioning the movable saw bushes and can so provide an ideal solution for every application.
The control elements are extremely easy to operate and of robust construction designed for use in sawmills.
Hydraulic saw positioning
With this system the movable saw bushes engage every 1 or 2 centimeters. Positioning is effected with the aid of either an actuating bar or an electric lever switch.
Electric saw positioning
With this system the saw bushes are positioned steplessly by means of electric motors that are operated either by electric lever switches or foot switches.
